Digital Imaging

Our doctors carefully choose which and when radiographs are taken. There are many guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.

Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal. Krum Dental Associates utilize digital imaging technologies within the office. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information.

Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography

A dental CBCT scan is a specialized type of x-ray that provides more information than conventional dental or facial x-rays. This computerized scan uses advanced technology to generate three-dimensional images.

CBCT scans provide 3-D images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone, which are considerably more detailed than conventional two-dimensional dental x-rays. The scan allows for more precise diagnosis and treatment planning.

There are several uses for a CBCT in dentistry.

  • more precise measurements for root canal therapy
  • determining bone height and thickness for implant placement
  • identifying the location of nerves prior to surgical procedures
  • better evaluation of pathologies such as cyst and tumors

Digital impressions

Here at Krum Dental Associates we offer digital impressions for most procedures. Digital impressions represent cutting-edge technology that allows the dentist to create a virtual, computer-generated replica of the hard and soft tissues in the mouth using an optical scanning device. The wand captures clear and highly accurate impression data in minutes, without the need for traditional impression materials that most patients find inconvenient and messy.

The information is then sent to our laboratory for fabrication of the prosthesis before the patient even leaves the chair!

The result is a highly accurate fitting prosthesis that can be fabricated with a very efficient and comfortable technique.

Intraoral Camera

Many patients, especially younger patients, are very familiar with the latest technology and are comfortable with the high tech practice. Computers and TV screens are their primary method of information processing.

Krum Dental Associates utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long which allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you as the patient can see with the same level of detail as our doctors.

Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and laboratories or insurance companies.
